A new scholarship, named for UCLA alumnus Barry Cappello, will soon be available for members of California chapters. The primary aim of the scholarship is to provide for financial need and offset members’ financial obligations.

Cappello graduated from UCLA in 1963, practicing law since. He was named one of the Daily Journal’s Top 100 Lawyers in California for 2014. Cappello has served on the Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation Board of Directors and continues to be a generous donor for the fraternity.

Cappello’s road to success began when he was only 16, when he was tasked with paying his own way for his college education. Today, Cappello is a successful lawyer in Santa Barbara, but remembers the hard work necessary. With the scholarship, Cappello hopes to help students in similar situations as he was realize their full potential.

“I’ve always believed in giving back; I think that people have to understand that that’s an important concept in life,” said Cappello. ” If you enjoy something, if you take something, if you see there is something good in life, there’s lots of ways to do it.  You should make sure that you do that, you give back;  by giving back, you can benefit someone else.”

Inaugural scholarship awards will be presented in the spring of 2018, and applications will be available in December.
