A. Barry Cappello, managing partner with the Santa Barbara law firm of Cappello & Noël LLP, was named one of the “Top 100 Lawyers” in California by the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journals. Cappello was one of only two attorneys selected for the honor between the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles.

The list of attorneys appeared in the September 10 issue of the Daily Journal, California’s largest legal daily newspaper.

“There are over 180,000 attorneys actively practicing law in California. Out of the 100 that were acknowledged, nearly all practice in large law firms in the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas,” says Leila Noël, Cappello’s legal partner. “Barry stands out because of his great success going against some of the largest banks and corporations in the country on behalf of individuals and small businesses.”

Cappello’s most recent trial win came when defending a small company, Sientra, which was sued for $27 million by Mentor/Johnson & Johnson for an allegedly “raiding” Johnson & Johnson employees and hiring them at Sientra. After an eight-week trial and less than four hours of deliberation, a Santa Barbara Superior Court jury completely rejected the lawsuit.

Cappello is nationally recognized as the pioneer in lender liability law. The fifth edition of Cappello’s book, Lender Liability (Juris Publishing, Inc.), was released in July. The book is considered the authoritative legal treatise on lender misconduct.

“No matter how large the opposing law firm, lender or corporation, they know who Barry is and that he will tenaciously fight for his clients,” said Noël. “And they know he wins for his clients.”
