LAWRENCE J. CONLAN

Mr. Conlan is a trial lawyer who has achieved significant victories for his clients who include emerging businesses, industry pioneers, and individual victims of consumer abuses and investment fraud.  He represents clients in lawsuits involving business torts, investment scams, wrongdoing by commercial and residential lenders, civil rights violations, financial elder abuse and major personal injuries.

Before bringing his practice to Santa Barbara, Mr. Conlan was an attorney in the litigation group at Paul Hastings, LLP in New York City.  He litigated complex commercial disputes and regulatory investigations, securities fraud claims, intellectual property lawsuits and class actions.  Mr. Conlan’s practice related to headline-making issues such as hedge fund failures, mortgage-backed and auction rate securities, and the 2008 collapse of the banking industry.

Mr. Conlan began his legal career at Holland & Knight LLP in San Francisco, where he represented clients in class actions, product liability, breach of contract, employment and trade secret cases, and First Amendment and SLAPP issues.  He also had a successful pro bono practice in the areas of immigration and civil rights, and was profiled in the Daily Journal in 2005 for his successful representation of a Lebanese national persecuted for his sexual orientation.  Mr. Conlan won asylum for his client after initial removal orders had been affirmed by the  U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
