Release From: Legal Aid Foundation of Santa Barbara County

February 2008

The Legal Aid Foundation of Santa Barbara County is pleased to announce the installation of a brand new ESI telephone system installed in its Santa Barbara office thanks to the generosity of the law firm of Cappello & Noël.

“The old system was in place for over 10 years and suffered from frequent breakdowns thus slowing down important legal work on behalf of low income people and victims of domestic violence and elder abuse,” said Legal Aid Foundation Executive Director Ellen Goodstein. “The new system has dramatically improved the quality of our connections, our telephone conferencing capabilities and has added new phone features,” she said.

“Everyone, regardless of their income level, is entitled to access to our legal system. Without that, there cannot be ‘justice for all,'” says A. Barry Cappello, managing partner of Cappello & Noël. “People with little or no income call the Legal Aid Foundation when they have a legal problem and have nowhere else to turn. The Foundation makes our system of justice accessible to those who otherwise could not afford the costs of legal representation.

“The Legal Aid Foundation needs the ability to efficiently handle the high volume of calls received to be able to make legal services available,” says Cappello. “If something as simple as a phone system breaks down, the legal needs of our humblest citizens could go unmet. Cappello & Noël has been a regular supporter of the Legal Aid Foundation over the years. We are proud to support its efforts.”

Cappello & Noël has been part of the Santa Barbara legal community since 1977. It is one of the foremost complex business litigation law firms in the country, often representing individuals and small businesses against some of the nation’s largest corporations and financial institutions.

“Our staff and Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Foundation gratefully acknowledge the ongoing generous support of Cappello & Noël,” added Goodstein.
